How to find the name of a TikTok sound or song

You hear a track on TikTok, it’s stuck in your head, and you want the full song. Most of the time the answer is one tap away. When the sound is labelled “original sound”, it takes one or two extra steps — here’s how to handle both cases.

Step 1: read the sound label

At the bottom of every TikTok video there’s a scrolling line of text next to a small spinning record — that’s the sound. Tap it to open the sound’s page, which shows the track title, the artist or uploader, and how many videos use it. For licensed songs from TikTok’s music library, that title and artist are usually all you need.

Step 2: when it says “original sound”

“Original sound – username” means the creator uploaded the audio themselves. Often it’s still a real song — recorded from speakers, sped up or remixed — but TikTok doesn’t label it. To identify it:

1. Copy the video’s link from the Share button.
2. Download just the audio with the TikTok to MP3 converter.
3. Play the MP3 and let a music recognition app, such as Shazam or the song search in the Google app, listen to it.
4. Still nothing? Read the caption and the top comments — someone has usually asked “song?” and someone else has answered.

Sped-up and remixed versions

Recognition apps sometimes fail on sped-up, slowed or pitch-shifted edits because the audio no longer matches the original recording. In that case, pick out a line of lyrics you can hear clearly and search for it in quotes. Adding words like “sped up” or “TikTok remix” to the search often surfaces the exact edit.

Keeping the sound
